Armored car guard killed in Houston robbery
HOUSTON – A Brinks security guard was shot and killed Thursday during a robbery near Houston's Galleria, authorities say.
A caller reported hearing several shots fired just after 2 p.m. at a Capital One Bank in west Houston.
Police on the scene say the armored truck guard was shot during a robbery attempt by three masked suspects.
Houston Police Department spokesman Keith Smith said the guard's identity was being withheld until his family could be notified.
Another guard fired back at the suspects, but it's not clear if anyone was hit.
No one else inside the bank was hurt.
"I heard there was a shooting, that someone tried to rob the truck," said Mohammed Alatwar, a customer. "And the glass is shattered."
The getaway vehicle, a white Ford 150, was found about a mile away but the suspects got away, police said.
Federal agents and K-9 units were sent to the scene to help in the search.
The Houston Police Department said the suspects may be wearing body armor and helmets.
